Gone are the days of paying for more than what you use! The TRAI regulations will allow you to choose the exact channels you want to watch. You do not need to pay more than what you are watching. What’s more? To make the pricing system easier to understand, TRAI also has a web app that makes DTH channel selection easier. You can choose channels of your preference and understand how much they will have to pay for it. After that, you can contact your operator to seal the deal.
It is can be considered as a practice exercise before the actual DTH channel selection. It makes the user sure of the pricing and what all options are available for them before making their final selections from the available DTH channel packs. All television network channels have been mandated by TRAI to create bouquets of channels that users can subscribe to watch. The app will provide these lists to the users. For example, a channel can provide a Kids bouquet, one which consists of all their channels, or one which has only HD channels, and so on.
How to calculate the price?
Every month you will have to pay a mandatory fee of up to Rs. 130 (for 100 channels) called the Network Capacity Fee or NCF. It is a rental for the television connection. For the next 25 channels, you will have to pay an additional Rs. 20. If your channel selection is between 125-150, you will be paying another Rs. 20. So, if you select between 101-125 channels, your NCF will be Rs. 130 + Rs. 20 i.e. Rs. 150. If your DTH channel packs consists of above 125 channels, the NCF will be Rs. 130 + Rs. 20 + Rs. 20 i.e. Rs. 170.
Next, on the TRAI web app you will be able to view the price for each paid channel that you choose. The app allows you to select the channels of your choice and the updated prices will show on the top-right bar. You can browse through the various categories to select all the channels of your choice.
Alternatively, you can check to see if there are bouquets available for the choices that you have made. It will not reduce your selections or the number of channels chosen. By selecting the bouquets offered by various channels, you can optimize the price you pay by receiving more at a lesser price. The sum total of the price you have to pay and the total number of channels you have chosen will be shown on the upper right corner of the TRAI web app.
